I had to post this video of Mitchell Jochim talking about his 'soft car' that is smart & pedestrian-friendly. You can't hear him, the cars outside are so damned loud. He's in new york.

I found there people on flickr, Commonwealth, from New York (ironically) they are a couple that make exquisitely wonderful CNC milled/digitally designed stuff... their work reminds me of ferro fluid frozen in time:

this blog is gonna get full real fast.

this dude at MIT invented a floating wireless lightbulb. He says wireless power transfer has been around since 1890, but no one uses it. wtf. It's all electromagnets, I'm pretty sure.

His blog says he is currently in scotland, playing Orpheus X at a theater festival. Who are these people?

STRAANDBEaST! / ferrofluid

I've found the perfect inaugural post:

actually, 2 one by accident but it couldn't be denied:

this sh*t cracks me up! its totally wild. He calls them 'kinetic sculpture' and one day hopes to set them free in the dunes of the netherlands to live their own lives. (who could object?)
more at straandbeast.com (of course)

tangentially, annother kinetic sculpture of opposite qualities: ferrofluid.

re:

"in the matter of" More literally, "by the thing". From the ablative of res ("thing" or "circumstance"). Often used in e-mail replies. It is a common misconception that the "Re:" in correspondence is an abbreviation for regarding. The use of Latin re, in the sense of "about, concerning", is English usage." -wikipedia

Architecture: the thing, and by the thing...it is the physical and the experience generated by the physical. It is a response, a commentary, a product - it can never be an isolated statement of itself, its 'self' is always multiplied and sometimes distorted by initial inputs & external conditions.

I hope you read through this random smattering of ideas about architecture, of responses to a thousand shifting factors that shape our built world and give it meaning.
